Abstract

New ventures are frequently founded by entrepreneurial teams via entrepreneurs' social networks. However, it's important to note that entrepreneurs primarily rely on cognitive networks to make decisions, rather than their actual social networks. Despite this, existing research has primarily focused on actual networks. To address this gap, our research, drawing from the cognitive network perspective, aims to explore how overconfident social networks among entrepreneurs influence two distinct types of entrepreneurial team formation. Additionally, we aim to investigate the moderating impact of prior entrepreneurial failure experience. Using data from 185 entrepreneurs, including two types of networks, we provide insightful results.
