The Praxis of Redemption: Enrique Dussel’s Levinasian-Marxist Theology
of Sin and Salvation
Abstract
This essay elucidates how Enrique Dussel combines elements of Levinas's
ethics, Marxism, and Latin American liberation theology in the
development of his practical political philosophy. Particular attention
is given to how these three influences are incorporated in Dussel's
theories of sin and salvation. The essay also examines Dussel's
arguments concerning the shortcomings of Levinas and Marx and the
concepts he creates to overcome those deficiencies.
