This study analyzes the relation between funded and unfunded papers, and citations in different scientific fields. Findings here reveal general properties of scientific development in research fields related to basic and applied sciences: a) Funded articles in journals receive higher citations than unfunded papers in journals, b) Funded articles in journals have a super-linear variation of citations higher than unfunded articles in journals: a higher accumulation of citations and diffusion of knowledge of funded articles in journals than unfunded papers. Results here can provide information for extend the knowledge to design research policies directed to support funding for the scientific development in research fields to advance science in human society.
